How to calculate VAT on items you buy from a wholesaler. This simple form enables you to work out how much VAT you have to pay when you buy items from a wholesaler or company that charges VAT on products. So for example if it costs 18.99 an item, you would put that in the first box (18.99). If the VAT for your country was 20% you would write 1.2 in the second box and then press the calculate button. If it was 15% you would type in 1.15, if it was 17.5% you would type in 1.175.
